How Bee’s came
to be…My name is Anne Beal, owner of
Bee's Pet Boarding and my nickname is Bee. When I was younger, my
mother used to collect "bee things" for me. We also used
to talk about opening a bed and breakfast someday. As I got
older, I realized my love for taking care of animals was greater
than wanting to take care of people, so I decided to open a pet
boarding facility instead!
I have over 10 years of experience
taking care of animals. I have volunteered with Friends of Feral
Felines for many years, where I’ve helped street cats get to the
vet and made sure they had a safe place to live. I have 14 of my
own cats that keep me busy. They are all strays that I’ve taken
in over the years. Even though I have no dogs or other pets at
this point for myself, I have had years of experience taking care
of many different types of animals, such as dogs, reptiles, and
cute little bunnies. I would love to talk with you about any needs
you may have for your pets.
To get Bee’s started, I needed to
find a place to live and run the business from. I was able to buy
five acres of land in Poland, right down the street from my
veterinarian, Dr. Kinney. Tripp Lake Road is in a quiet country
area, yet it’s very easy to find. It sits between Route 26 and
Route 11. My house is also on the property, so I am never too far
away from your pet! The process of finding the funding for the
construction of Bee’s was difficult. However, I found help
through local small business offices, such as AVCOG and CEI. They
offer great FREE workshops on how to get a business started. I
also had the help of a friend who is an architect to come up with
the design plans for Bee’s. I wanted it to look and feel as much
like home as possible. The contractor, Bill Holthom, was very
patient and spent a lot of time with me finalizing the plans. Once
the funding was secure, the construction took only about three
months. However, I’m still trying to finish up on all the small
details…painting the trim around the windows is a never-ending
job it seems….and I am working on putting the floor tiles down in the
upstairs area. I am also in the process of becoming a member of the ABKA (The American Boarding Kennels Association).
Along with trying to open my
business, I have continued to work in video production, which is
what my college degree is in (Corporate Communications). I have
worked for local production companies, as well as Channel 6 News,
Fox 51, and PBS. I spent seven years editing, directing and
producing for many of the local programs you see on PBS. I enjoyed
the work there, and still do some freelance work for them whenever
possible. I learned a great deal about the state of Maine from
working there (I transplanted from CT nine years ago) and was
inspired by all the Made in Maine stories I worked on! Maine is a
wonderful place to live and the main reason I moved here was to
start my own business and be surrounded by animals!
I am very proud to say that after
so many years of dreaming and hard work, I have opened Bee’s Pet
Boarding for business. I am excited about the new challenges that
lie ahead. I hope that you will stop by for a visit, and feel that
I offer a service for your pets that you just can't find any where
else! |
